The LIDL store in Coslada has been built in a record time of 5 months. It has finally obtained the final double certificate BREEAM Excellent and VERDE 4 Leaves.
The store, considered by LIDL as one of its most sustainable stores in Europe. It has obtained the BREEAM Excellent final certificate of completed building, as well as the VERDE 4 Leaves certificate. The certificates are issued once the operation of all systems and compliance with the pre-established consumption and energy efficiency parameters have been verified.
Characteristics of both certifications
VERDE Certification
The VERDE Certificate is a certificate developed by the Green Building Council of Spain to recognize the application of sustainability and energy efficiency measures in building. Use a methodology based on the calculation of environmental impacts to objectively measure building sustainability. The results of the tool range from 1 to 5 pages.
BREEAM Certification
The BREEAM certification is a prestigious international certification for sustainable building, which has been adapted to the particularities of our country by BREEAM.ES. The tool allows obtaining grades of: Good, Very Good, Excellent, and Exceptional. The project was also nominated for the BREEAM Awards 2017.
Project Characteristics
Under the name "Total Store", the LIDL shop in Coslada, incorporates numerous innovations compared to previous shops, aimed at improving the shopper experience, improving energy efficiency and employee comfort. Thanks to these innovations, the store has become a model of the fourth generation of stores in Spain, and the measures adopted will be applied in the upcoming new construction stores of the German company.
Different strategies have been implemented for the consumption reduction of energy and water, the improvement of thermal and acoustic comfort levels, the use of sustainable materials, ecological actions for flora and fauna, waste reduction, and the improvement of mobility.
LIDL and sustainability
This project represents for us the culmination of a work process initiated with the client more than 4 years ago to improve the efficiency and sustainability of their stores. LIDL's efforts in sustainability are reflected in the achievement of both sustainability seals and the recent ISO 50001, which accredits excellence in the energy management of all its facilities in Spain.
