Zero Consulting obtains the BREEAM In Use licence to certify existing non-residential buildings

The new assessment scheme is added to the New Construction and Housing schemes, thus being able to certify all types of buildings under the BREEAM sustainable certification.

BREEAM In Use allows certification of existing non-residential buildings, at least two years old, such as offices, hospitals, hotels or logistics platforms. It is an evaluation and certification system that will allow us to reduce operating costs and improve the sustainability of the property through a plan of measures.

With the invoices and the actual consumption data of the building, we can set the goals to achieve more quickly. We will obtain an improvement in the environmental performance of the building, thanks to the reduction of energy and water costs and the environmental footprint, mainly. It also increases the market value of the building and improves staff engagement and satisfaction.

The assessment tool consists of answering all the questions posed and supporting the answers with the necessary evidence. It is made up of the nine usual categories: Management, Materials, Transportation, Waste, Water, Health and Well-being, Pollution, Energy and Land Use and Ecology; and it is divided into two parts: Building and Management. In the case of offices, a third part related to the management of the occupants is added.

Once the tool is completed, BREEAM ES calculates the final score that must be revalidated every three years.

With this new licence, Zero Consulting will be able to apply its extensive experience in the certification of new buildings to the management of existing assets, achieving significant improvements and savings in their management, as well as a greater appreciation of the properties.
